Morning Writing

One of the things I’ve really enjoyed is writing first thing in the morning.

My morning routine is pretty simple: wake up, give the cat his pill, make coffee, work in my journal, do a bit of reading and /or listen to a podcast, then hit the showers and head to work.

Since the new year, I’ve added a bit of time to write something like this. Whatever is on my mind, whatever my brain has been processing all night. Sometimes I get a blog post, sometime is goes into my private journal for reflection later.

The main thing I get out of this is ordering my thoughts before I go talk to people. My thoughts aren’t usually words; they are vague emotions and intentions that need to be distilled through language. This new habit helps me do that.
